The former U.S. Navy officer and Purple Heart recipient (he returned the medal in protest of the Viet Nam War) discusses, among other things, the Church’s continuing support of murderous right-wing regimes; the Vatican’s war against liberation theologists; the havoc created by U.S. foreign and immigration policies in Central and South America; and his efforts to shut down the Fort Benning, Ga.-based Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (he calls it “the School of the Assassins”), which since 1946 has been training the military elite of many developing countries in what he calls "the fine art of repression and terrorism."
