Service as holistic witness is something Mennonites seem to understand. We have embraced service as an act of evangelical witness. From Menno Simons with his quote about true evangelical faith feeding the hungry, etc., and on through our history, Mennonites have understood Jesus' ministry as having service deeply tied to it. While acknowledging the multiplicity of reasons to serve, Pastor Phil pointed out that Genesis 1:1, 31 and Isaiah 65:17-25 clearly demonstrate that God is desiring healing for this world. In Luke 4:16-22 we see Jesus highlighting his ministry of bringing healing to the world. God is at work in the world. Because we are servants of God, we want to join in with what God is doing. We will serve God on behalf of the world.
