Be Ready

SERIES: SIGNS OF THE TIME (Matt. 24:45-51)
In no uncertain terms Jesus makes it plain that He is coming again. The only uncertainty for us is that we do not know the day nor the hour. In fact, in verses just before the passage we are looking at today, Jesus says that the conditions on earth when He returns are going to be similar to the days of Noah (v 37-39). What was it like in Noah’s days? It was “business as usual.” People were going through their daily routines - eating, drinking, gettting married, carrying on with life. Though Noah preached to them for 120 years, warning of the impending judgement, they willfully chose to ignore his warnings. They just didn’t believe God’s Word, and they were unprepared when the flood came.

When Christ returns, many will be going about their life, and will be completely unprepared. Jesus compared His return to the coming of a thief in the night. A thief will not call and make an appointment in advance. He comes when we do not expect him. Jesus’ point is that we need to be ready at all times, and in this passage He defines for us what it means to be ready for His return.
