Born Again: Cliche’ or Reality?

Being a "born again" Christian is a popular phrase these days, but what did Jesus really mean when he told Nicodemus he had to be "born again" to be a part of the kingdom of God?  How did he use the term?  How does it happen?  What do we know about Nicodemus?  What did he learn?  What did he do?
