In praise of reverence

Advent is our annual wake-up call to be alert. In Luke 21, beginning in verse 28 Jesus repeatedly says we should pay attention.But pay attention to what? To all of the bad things happening in the world? Pastor Phil Kniss suggests that we should be paying attention to the many ways that Christ is appearing everyday in the world around us. These signs of redemption are subtle and easy to miss. It requires us to pay attention. Pastor Phil went on to say that our ability to be attentive is directly linked to our ability to be reverent. Both require us to focus beyond ourselves and set aside our own agenda. In the midst of a fearful world, we are called to reverent attentiveness.
