Episode 25: The Unexpected Pregnancy

This week on Talk Sex With Dick, NYC Sex Therapist Dr. Richard Mills talks about his time in LA, a man who inquiries about sex with his wife after 44 years of marriage, and answers questions about feeling frustrated, divorce, Grindr, credit card debt, and dealing with an unexpected pregnancy.

After taken a last minute trip to Los Angeles, Richard discusses how he’s come to understand the pandemic as a state of mind.  Hunkering down in Glendale, he finds himself at peace as he ventures to take in the Hollywood skyline while mentally preparing for his return to New York City and beginning the summer, and getting sucked into Leah Remini’s A&E television series Scientology & The Aftermath he finds himself flabbergasted by the light she shines on the abusive practices of the Church of Scientology.

He tells the story of a phone call he received earlier in the week from one man in Michigan who inquired if it was safe to have sex with his wife of 40+ years, during the pandemic. 

He goes on to answer a series of questions from listers who wrote in.

The first question comes from a listener in Manhattan who describes their frustrations with the pandemic.  They feel discouraged in their relationship and describe feeling disconnected and wonder if things will change when the pandemic is over.

Another man from Ohio wrote in to express his feelings of devastation as he recently discovered his partner was sending naked pictures to other men on Grindr.  From his response, it’s clear he is overwhelmed and wonders if he can move past this violation of trust.  He’s saddened by his partners actions, that has caused him to wonder if his partner has stepped out.  The love he once felt feels far away, and deep down wonders what they should do next.

The next listener from Washington describes their partner is in over their head $50,000 in credit card debt after receiving a call from a debt collector.   They are contemplating divorce, but unsure what steps to take next. 

Finally, the last listener from Minnesota recently found out she is pregnant after a one night stand and has decided not to have an abortion but is worried about what her family and church community will think once they find out.
