The Ghosts of Versailles

Are there places in this world where it is possible for one to walk into the past, where one might observe physical landmarks which no longer exist, see individuals long since dead and, perhaps, even interact with them? If so, the parkland adjacent to the Petit Trianon on the grounds of the Palace at Versailles might be one such place.
