US Close 1 Feb 18: FED no change but inflation concerns caused choppy trading

US sharemarkets ended higher in a choppy session on Wednesday. was up 4.9% after issuing a strong earnings forecast. At the close of trade the Dow Jones was up by 72.5 points or 0.3% after being up 261 points at one stage. The US Federal Reserve has left the target rate for the federal funds at 1.25-1.50%. The Fed expects inflation to trend higher over the year and says that employment, household spending and business investment have been solid. The Fed "is monitoring inflation developments closely.
