#Namibians, angry with widespread corruption like the #Fishrot scandal, abysmal service delivery, disconnected #SWAPO leadership and widespread poverty even after three decades of SWAPO rule, went for opposition candidates in Namibia's recent regional and local elections. SWAPO lost at least 30 constituencies and now finds itself not running the country's major economic hubs like #Swakopmund, #Luderitz and the capital #Windhoek (among many others).
In the coastal tourist spot of sleepy Swakopmund, the newly formed (in August 2020) Independent Patriots for Change (#IPC) candidate #Ciske Smith, ran away with the vote, eclipsing the SWAPO candidate by over 2,500 votes.
Ciske Smith Howard is a 36 year old Namibian, the first White woman to take office in Swakopmund, where she garnered 47% of the total vote. Ms. Smith describes herself with the following quote:
"I don’t identify myself as a Politician. I’m here to work for my people. I’m Friendly, Strict and quite excited to bring change to our people. I believe the fact that I cannot leave something until I have answers or solutions makes me ideal for this position."
