Controversial new rules on digital copyright have been backed by members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
They are aimed at ensuring musicians, artists and authors receive payment by online platforms that host their work.
The move sparked a Europe wide debate on freedom of expression, with critics concerned everyday use of the internet could be impacted.
