Rope Dropping vs. Staying Late

Which is better - getting to the parks early for rope drop or staying late until the park closes? We have a definite preference, but in case you don't we wanted to go over all the pros and cons of each so you can make an informed decision. You HAVE to do one of them at least or else what are you even getting done in Disneyland? Happy New Year, everyone!
