If you have ever wondered what it truly means that a group of people are called a church and how that group fits into the larger context of the church of God, then this sermon will be helpful in bringing clarity, particularly as it derives from the undisputed source of all truth; the scriptures. As you listen, you will learn that the church of God is the only institution that the Lord Jesus Christ founded for his people to be joined to and for the protection and spread of the gospel. The church is both local in organization and global in its scope. More specifically, you will learn that the church of God is the church of God, the church of God is the local church…a specific group of people in a specific place and the church of God is the universal church…all the people everywhere, throughout history, who have believed in Christ.

If you’re a Christian, you should love the church of God and be glad that it’s the church of God, not of man. It should give you cause for thanks that God has ordained for his church to be the local church, a specific group of people and a specific time in a specific place, in which he brings all the comforts of the gospel to his people in their own context.
