From ”No Graven Images” to the Ikon of the Invisible God

The Second Commandment "No Graven Images" was a bolt from the blue for the ancient world. Who could imagine such a counter-cultural and difficult mandate given in the religious context of the ancient world, yet it was given. Israel failed it up until the exile but afterwards was able to keep that letter of the law. But why the letter. And then comes Jesus.
