Market Close 22 Apr 20: ASX recovers from steep declines, defying a further retreat in energy prices

After falling close to 5% in the first two days of the week, the Aussie market has managed to avoid a third successive decline with the ASX 200 ending the day flat at 5,221. It was looking like another day of heavy losses with the benchmark index falling 2.3% within the first half hour, but managed to turn around those losses late in the day even briefly hitting positive territory throughout the afternoon.
