Hello Students,
Welcome to Unit 3. Let’s begin. Please spend the first moments of this unit navigating the assignments, samples and reviewing the PowerPoint lectures. Your textbook is also required for this Unit. If your text is late the PowerPoint lecture will help, until you have your book.
This unit begins with a quiz and ends with a journal. To succeed in this unit, you are required to work with your Unit 3 team. This will allow you to innovate, and collaborate effectively and complete speech 3 together. In Unit 2 you addressed several societal problems with your analysis. Now, as a team you will be asked to get to know your peers and work together to solve one of the problems that you decide is worthy of your time and effort. This unit will require you to learn or improve your time management skills, interpersonal, team communication skills, creativity, problem solving, PowerPoint, research, and public speaking skills.
Each assignment includes a sample to help you understand the instructions. The instructions will also clarify why the assignments are necessary and how they will help you in your personal, academic, and professional lives. Your time is very important to me, so I have spent time to explain how you can learn and grow in the instructions. Please read the instructions, review the samples, and complete your assignments before the due dates. If you miss an assignment, please don’t give up, please continue to submit your assignment and I will grade them for you.
In unit 3 you will see the chapters related to each assignment. This means that content from those chapters will be included. All assignments are open book. You can read before attempting the assignment, or you can complete the assignment along with your textbook. The choice is yours. Please read the instructions before attempting all assignments. Additionally, you should review samples for the journals, and speeches to understand what is required of you. There are 6 assignments in unit 3. You can also earn an additional 50 points if your team completes an oral presentation for Speech 3. This is optional, but it is not required. Please read the instructions and decide as a team.
In unit 3 the quiz and reading assessment are practice assignments intended to prepare you for the other assignments in the unit. The Unit 3 Discussion board assignment is a detailed assignment. You should submit all components. This is your opportunity to provide peer feedback and receive instructor and peer feedback. Please submit your entire discussion board posts including PowerPoint, and discussion board prompt responses. You peers will not submit your Unit 3 discussion board posts for you. Please use the Unit 3 Team discussion board to share your ideas with your team, then submit your completed team PowerPoint to the Unit 3 Discussion Board for peer feedback form other teams and your instructor. Please do your part. This is a team project. I am included in all teams, so I can see if you are participating. If you are not participating, you will be rewarded accordingly. Please do your part to contribute to the team project.
Speech 3 PowerPoint: Your Unit 3 speech is divided into 2 components. One is the written component and the other is the oral component. Please submit the written component with your discussion board for peer and instructor feedback. After you have made the recommended changes suggested by your instructor and peers, please submit to the Written Speech assignment for a final grade. Please include your name and all active team members on the cover slide. Remember you are promoting the solution to a problem. Please give your policy or service a name and persuade the audience to support your innovation. Please remember to cite your work in APA format. Remember that all sources on your reference slide should have a matching verbal and in-text citation. Please review the Understanding APA PowerPoint to clarify any misunderstandings to avoid plagiarism. Please remember that your PowerPoint should be visually appealing, avoid full paragraphs, and wordy slides. Balance your photos, graphs, statistics, and videos with text and support your ideas with research in APA format.
Speech 3 PowerPoint and Video: Oral Component: The final PowerPoint is the required for the oral component. You can also earn an additional 50 points if your entire team or one member of the team delivers an oral presentation. The oral part of your speech requires you to dress in professional attire, and record an oral version of your speech. Please remember to provide oral citations. It is very important to tell the audience why each source is credible to share information related to your persuasive speech. Please review the sample projects and the Understanding APA PowerPoint to understand what is required of you. Please use your PowerPoint as speaking notes for the oral presentation if you choose to do one. Please do not read to the audience. Please engage your audience, work on your posture, eye contact, volume, tone, flow, and enthusiasm. The Unit 3 lecture provides samples and guides to improve your oral presentation. Please submit your video file or a video link. Your video links should be made public to allow your instructor to review your speeches and provide feedback.
Audience: When you record your speeches, you may have an audience, or you can provide an audience analysis. If you want a live audience for your speech, you are responsible for finding a minimum of 3 audience members.
If you do not have a live audience: Please provide a detailed audience analysis before your speech. Please describe your target audience and share 3 strategies that were employed to adapt your speech to meet their needs and interests.
Sample Audience Analysis: Today I will be sharing a personal experience with a diverse audience of students, faculty, and parents. I have considered their age, language and cultural needs to prepare a speech that will address their individual and collective needs. I will rely on common themes to connect my story with the needs of this diverse audience.
