There are no blacks on Big Bang Theory

I am a geek and I am a fan of Big Bang Theory. No surprises there.As I was driving the other day – I started to think about geek black role models. ----more----This is a concern for me as most of my son’s geeky friends in school are black. They love science and learning and Minecraft, just like my son.But unlike my son, society doesn’t encourage them to continue being interested in science.And I realized as I was driving around thinking about them, that there are no blacks on Big Bang Theory, aside from the HR lady, and she’s not a geek.

This is a concern for me as most of my son’s geeky friends in school are black.

They love science and learning and Minecraft, just like my son.

But unlike my son, society doesn’t encourage them to continue being interested in science.

And I realized as I was driving around thinking about them, that there are no blacks on Big Bang Theory, aside from the HR lady, and she’s not a geek.

She’s just there to highlight the well-meaning social ineptness of our leads.

I got to thinking about what a black geek character on the show would be like and I realized.

He would be brilliant, of course, like all the rest, but his problem would be that he was always late because he is always getting pulled over by the same stupid cop asking him where he was going and what he was doing in this neighborhood.

And I realized ... that’s not funny.
