Morning Report 6 Jul 21: US sharemarkets were closed on Monday

European sharemarkets advanced on Monday. The pan-European STOXX 600 index lifted by 0.3%. Banks (+1.7%), materials (+1.5%) and travel (+1.2%) shares led gains. IHS Markit’s final Eurozone composite purchasing managers index (PMI) reading came in at 15-year high of 59.5, up from 57.1 in May.The German Dax index rose by 0.1%. The UK FTSE index gained 0.6% after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson set out plans to end virus restrictions on July 19. Shares of Morrisons (+11.6%) jumped to a near 8-year high after US private equity company Apollo Global Management became the third suitor for the British supermarket group. In London trade, shares in Rio Tinto and BHP both lifted by 1.4%.
