Journalists need “better protection” – McGuinness

The recent murder of a Slovakian journalist and his fiancée has been widely condemned by MEPs in the European Parliament. MEPs yesterday called for an international investigation into the murder of Ján (prn Yan) Kuciak and his fiancée, Martina Kušnírová (prn Kushnirovah). Mr Kuciak had been investigating alleged misuse of EU funds and potential links between organised crime groups and Slovak politicians when he and his girlfriend were shot dead last month. The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness says their deaths evoke memories of Veronica Guerin’s murder.
