US Close 22 March 19: US stocks recover as investors get to terms with cautious Fed

US sharemarkets were firmer on Thursday. Economic data was stronger-than-expected including another fall in the number of workers filing for unemployment claims. Technology stocks were also firmer. Shares in chipmaker Micron Technology rose 9.6% after reporting better-than-expected quarterly earnings. Shares in Apple rose 3.7% ahead of the expected announcement next week of a streaming service. Shares of Levi Strauss & Co rose 31.8% after the jeans maker re-listed on the sharemarket. The Dow Jones index rose by 217 points or 0.8%. The S&P500 index rose by 1.1%. And the Nasdaq index rose by 110 points or 1.4%
