First things first, in the intro I mention a Go Fund Me for a local family that lost 3 young children this week. You can go here to find out more.
I grew up watching pageants, not because I wanted to. We had 3 channels and mom liked watching them. I never really got the whole purpose of them, I mean I knew they provided scholarships, entertainment, etc. however, it wasn't something that interested me at all. Later on in life we had a daughter and she isn't the girly girl type so entering her into something like this never entered the equation. My entire view of pageants is summed up with what I know from the Movie Miss Congeniality and reality tv.
The other day a news article came across my feed about a local woman who had won the national title of Ms. US World 2019. Her name is Ashley Ingram and she's from Sweetwater, TN. At first, I didn't think much of it. Later that day as people were talking about her, I thought; Hey, this would be a good chance for me to dive a little deeper and find out what is the attraction to pageants.
At the beginning of the podcast, I share the thought that I'm actually surprised that pageants are still a thing in today's era. I even ask if they aren't a bit degrading to women.
