Morning Report 4 Oct 21: ASX set for gains at the open following last week’s losses

Local shares are set for a better start on Monday with the futures pointing to a gain of 0.7% for the ASX 200 at the start of trade. US sharemarkets rebounded on Friday as investors took advantage of cheapened stocks in the wake of recent declines as well as better economic data. The Dow Jones index rose by 483 points or 1.4%. The S&P 500 index rose by 1.2%. And the Nasdaq index lifted by 118 points or 0.8%. Over the week the Dow fell by 1.4%; the S&P 500 lost 2.2%; and the Nasdaq fell by 3.2%.
