The Independent MEP Marian Harkin says she’s disappointed that the European Parliament voted against a decision to send the EU-Canada trade deal to the European Court of Justice. A number of MEPs including Marian Harkin, were concerned about the inclusion of a controversial aspect of the trade deal that provides investors with a mechanism to sue states if they’re unhappy with certain laws. They wanted the European Court of Justice to see if the clause contravened EU Treaties. However, the resolution was rejected by the European Parliament last Wednesday. Marian Harkin says the inclusion of the clause could have major implications for Ireland.
