THE CALL FOR REPENTANCE IN GOSPEL PREACHING

The call for repentance features strongly in New Testament evangelism but is notable for its absence in much preaching today. Jesus launched His public ministry with the words "repent and believe in the gospel" (Mark 1:14) but too often we call upon people to believe while soft pedalling the need for sinners to repent for fear of offending those we want to attract. But converts who have never known true repentance are liable to return to their former ways.
