The devil tempted Jesus three times and Jesus addressed each temptation of the devil at the essence of the temptation, always turning the focus on God.

 

Matthew 4

 

4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

 

7 Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

 

10 Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and HIM only shalt thou serve.
