US Close 8 Jan 16: Once again international markets hit by China. Dow listing worst ever start to a New Year.

The Chinese sharemarket was forced to close early on Thursday after the circuit breaker was tripped with stocks down by 7%. But the securities regulator announced overnight that the circuit-breaker mechanism would be suspended. China is also under pressure to allow a significant depreciation of it currency of around 10-15%.

 

US sharemarkets fell on Thursday in line with European markets on China concerns. With just over an hour of trade to go, the Dow Jones index was down by 338 points or 2.0% with the S&P 500 lower by 2.0% while the Nasdaq was down by 122 points or 2.5%
