example - Music minister is getting older but sees that the church needs to change direction to reach younger people. He doesn't feel equipped to lead differently but loves the church and would like to stay there.
Is it a good idea to hire from within:
The benefits:
-
An insider can probably cut the transition time down for the congregation.
-
An insider knows how the church works.
-
An insider has some key relationships already in tact.
-
An insider has an awareness of the church history.
The cautions:
-
The personal transition time for the leader often happens at a slower pace.
-
An insider is tempted to make changes too quickly because they have such a deep awareness of what is wrong.
-
An insider may not have the ability to take on a role at a different level.
