Madeleine was the first woman to serve as U.S. Secretary of State (1997–2001).and a long-time public servant committed to serving the needs of women and girls. Madeleine joined Georgetown’s faculty in the School of Foreign Service in 1982. Nick Schifrin reports and Judy Woodruff speaks with former President Bill Clinton by phone to discuss her life and career. Secretary Albright inspired students not only to understand the world, but to serve the world. “I love teaching at Georgetown,” she said. “I’m sometimes known as ‘Secretary,’ but most of all I like being known as ‘Professor.'” said in her Georgetown University Class of 2019 Graduation speech. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says receiving the Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama, the nation's highest civilian honor, left her "almost" speechless.
