The Bold and the Beautiful storyline involving RJ Forrester (Joshua Hoffman), Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada), and Zende Forrester Dominguez (Delon de Metz) has sparked controversy among viewers. The plot, involving Luna's inadvertent drug use and ensuing intimate encounter with Zende, has been condemned for its handling of sensitive themes.
Luna's mother, Poppy Nozawa (Romy Park), has been heavily criticized for her irresponsibility in presenting serious drugs as harmless 'mints'. Meanwhile, RJ Forrester's casual revelations about Luna's virginity to others have been found distasteful and disrespectful.
The storyline has also come under fire for shifting the focus from Luna, who arguably is the victim, to the reactions of the other characters. This treatment of Luna's character raises questions about the handling of consent and victim trauma on the CBS soap opera.
It's not the first time head writer Brad Bell has been criticized for such depiction, with similar storylines involving Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Caroline Spencer in the past. Despite the controversy, The Bold and the Beautiful continues to intrigue its audience with its complex and provocative storylines.
