Market Close 15 May 19: Local shares hold early gains to end higher by 44 points or 0.7%

The ASX 200 advanced on Wednesday following several days of turmoil for global markets. Technology and energy names are the most improved, while property stocks are the only decliners. The Aussie dollar firmed after encouraging figures on wage growth, although the gains were erased following weaker than expected Chinese figures on investment, retail sales and industrial production.
