  Indiana State Sanatorium opened in the early 1900s as a safe haven for tuberculosis patients. By the late 60s, it closed after adequate medication became widely available. By the 1970s the facility reopened as a psychiatric/long term care home and was no longer a safe haven. After years of patient abuse, deaths and suicides, it closed 10 years ago.
