Lockdown in Australia, the lessons for the UK

It's winter in Australia and respiratory illnesses have returned. But in New South Wales, with a population of over 8million people, less than 200 people test positive.  Yet they are plunged into a weeks long lockdown. What lessons can we learn from this?
