The financial industry is not as regulated as the healthcare industry. Almost anyone can call themselves "advisors". There are some who have specific designations such as CFP, CFA, CLU (and by all means this is not an exhaustive list here). However, many do not and many are only interested in selling products as opposed to honestly provide advice and strategy. Know who you are dealing with. Are you engaging an advisor or a salesperson?
