Morning Report 30 August 19: Trade hopes revived pushing stocks higher

 

* US sharemarkets rose on Thursday in response to indications
that US-China trade talks could resume. Shares of retailer Dollar
General rose 10.7% on a upbeat full-year profit forecast. But shares
in Best Buy fell 8% and shares in Abercrombie & Fitch fell 15.1% in
response to profit updates. The Dow Jones rose by 326 points or
1.3%, after being up 383 points. The S&P500 index rose by 1.3%
and the Nasdaq gained 116.5 points or 1.5%.
