What does it mean to achieve?
To want to achieve something means to have a strong desire to accomplish a particular goal or objective. It is the first step towards planning for the future and plays a fundamental role in the development of skills in various facets of life, from work to relationships and everything in between. Achieving goals in any aspect of life can boost self-esteem and self-efficacy, leading to improvements in confidence and well-being.
On Friday I spoke about picking a word for the year that resonated with you, to focus on for the year. What do you want to achieve with that word. Be stronger? Braver? Unfuckwitable? So how do you ACHIEVE that thing you want for 2024?
First, you need to pick your word or a goal that you want to achieve. If it is a goal, think about this 1st, SET A SMALL, ATTAINABLE GOAL!! With goals, it is great to have BIG ambitious goals, BUT those are always longer and harder to reach. Start with small, achievable goals.
Break down that BIG goal into a bunch of mini goals. Each time you have mastered a mini goal and are able to cross it off your list, it keeps you motivated and brings you closer to achieving that bigger goal!
- You need to understand you goal/word that you picked. Be very clear and specific with your goal.
It will help to continue you to give that motivation YOU may need in order to keep going. Do this for you and only.
- Again, break down that larger goal. Having a goal that you can measure will help you stay on track.
- If you are setting a time line, I must lose 25 lbs in 3 months. Give yourself extra time!! Studies have shown that giving yourself extra time (adding an extra 25% to deadline) is helpful in achieving your goals.
- Do not focus on your past failures. It is normal in life to go through ups and downs. Failing is one of the best ways to learn.
- Remove any obstacles before you start.
Think, "What could prevent me from achieving this goal?"
Write down what you think your obstacles are, any excuses or fears, as well as how you will knock those obstacles on their butt! By putting your barriers down to pen and paper, you take away their power.
- Celebrate your wins.
It will not always go the way you want, that is ok. STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP!! Evaluate what went right and what you will improve next time. Each time you do this, it better prepares you for your next goal.
Living without a vision is similar to living without a purpose - it is essentially a waste of time.
It is NEVER too late! You are never to OLD!
