MESSAGE SUMMARY:
You should think of fasting as a call by Jesus to come to Him and feast commune with Him. Most of the time, when you are fasting, you are thinking about what you must give up in the fast. Rather than focusing on “going without” in your fasting, focus on Paul’s example for us, in Acts 14:22-23. Paul’s fasting focus example occurs when he was preaching the Gospel in Antioch and after he had been stoned and left for dead. Rather than leaving the field of discipleship in fear, Paul returned the next day to preaching the Gospel with prayer and fasting: “strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.". In your feast with Jesus, you can drink heartily of His Word to let Jesus satisfy and nourish you.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Past Failures. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Grace. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).
SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Luke 2:36-38; Matthew 19:16-30; 2 Samuel 12:15-17; Psalms 145a:1-11.
