Welcome to Week 7 of the Carla and Crappy Show, where Carla has given up on college football in favor of hockey, and Crappy’s out sick. Is AJ our only hope? (Well, yeah, but if you’ve been around here for a while, you knew that already.)
After AJ regains Carla’s focus, we recap last weekend’s action, including a bunch of games that were much closer than their final scores indicated, and the disaster that is UNC. Oh, and Carla posits some theories about what happened in the Rose Bowl, none of which are good if you’re a Nittany Lion fan.
We then turn our attention to this weekend’s action, as AJ gives us a brief tour of the Group of 5, including Air Force at UNLV (3:30 ET, CBSSN) and UAB at FAU (6 ET, ESPN+), both of which have the potential to be pointsy as heck. To counter that, he also begrudgingly discusses Iowa at Wisconsin (7 ET, FS1), which has possibly the lowest-ever Fun Index in the history of this show at 35.5.
Next, we move on to the potential that is the Big 12 Buffet, where there are some exceptionally tasty options on the menu this week. (We’re looking squarely at you, BYU.)
No. 22 Iowa State at Colorado (3:30 ET, ESPN)
Kansas at No. 9 Texas Tech (7:30 ET, FOX)
No. 18 BYU at Arizona (8 ET, ESPN2)
No. 21 Arizona State at Utah (10:15 ET, ESPN)
And then, we’re onto the main slate.
No. 24 USF at North Texas (7:30 ET Friday, ESPN2): USF was the early-season darling before losing at Miami. North Texas is unbeaten and hyped. With a super high Fun Index, you should definitely put this game on your screen on Friday night.
No. 1 Ohio State at No. 17 Illinois (Big Nude, FOX): Remember what Indiana’s defense did to Illinois? Yeah. Ohio State’s defense is better. Yes, Annoying Bert is definitely back, but we like the Bucks on the road.
No. 8 Alabama at No. 14 Missouri (Noon ET, ABC): Mizzou is unbeaten, but for the most part untested. Bama’s got Tennessee next week. The intrigue factor is high in this one. (But we’re really afraid that good Bama is back. Darn it all.)
No. 7 Indiana at No. 3 Oregon (3:30 ET, CBS): Last year, a really good Indiana team got brought back down to earth by Ohio State. This is a very similar situation. Can the Hoosiers win an elite game in 2025?
No. 6 Oklahoma vs. Texas (3:30 ET, ABC): Should Oklahoma rush back John Mateer for this game? Is Arch really as bad as he looked last week at Florida? This game never makes sense. Happy Elmer Fudd week, friends!
No. 15 Michigan at USC (7:30 ET, NBC): The Wolverines are … fine. But they just keep winning. USC has the top offense in the Big Ten. Is that enough to pick up a needed signature win?
And, just for fun, AJ gives Carla a blind statistics quiz on a handful of Week 7 matchups. (You’re going to want to watch this part!)
The honorable mention slate goes to our usual suspects:
No. 17 Carnegie Mellon at No. 3 Johns Hopkins (Noon ET, athletics.cmu.edu)
Central Connecticut State at Robert Morris (2 ET, ESPN+)
Northwestern at Penn State (3:30 ET, FS1)
The playoff-bound Ohio Bobcats (yep, still speaking that into existence!) are off this week, and we regret to inform you that you already missed Missouri State at MTSU, because that game was played Wednesday night. (Welcome back, mid-week football!)
Enjoy the football this weekend, friends, and be sure to come back next week for an extra-special surprise edition of the #CnCShow. Cheers!
