Morning Report 16 Aug 21: US sharemarkets edged higher on Friday

A lift in the value of shares in Walt Disney outweighed news of a slump in consumer sentiment. Shares in Walt Disney rose 1% on favourable reaction to its latest earnings news. The Dow Jones index rose by 15.5 points or less than 0.1% to record highs. The S&P 500 index lifted 0.2% to record highs. And the Nasdaq index gained 6.6 points or less than 0.1%. Over the week, the Dow rose by 0.9%; the S&P 500 rose by 0.7%; but the Nasdaq fell by 0.1%.
