Everyone talks ABOUT Transmen & Transwomen. Very few people talk TO either. Or can begin to understand their lives both pre and post transition.
When Steven first met & worked with influential Canadian comedian & writer Lara Rae, she went by "Al". Then 25+ years later Steven got a call from "Lara" - at first not recognizing Lara as a transwoman who used to be known to Steven as "Al".
Living in a body that doesn't feel your own, the societal pressures that kept Lara called "Al", the fears, bigotries, loss of male gender status and the experience of transitioning in your 50s -we learn all of this from Lara, frank talk with a healthy dose of healthy humour along the way.
Stow your prejudices, Lara isn't some dry, politically-driven transwoman out to shame people. She's a funny, insightful, brutally honest human being and her journey will enighten us all.
