In anticipation of the upcoming Walk in History cemetery tour, Wiregrass Daily News sat down with two prominent figures in the preservation of Columbia’s local history: David Hunter, the official historian of Columbia, and Todd Chandler, owner of Columbia Manor and a dedicated volunteer with the Columbia Historical Society. During the conversation, David shared insights into the rich and often overlooked history of Columbia, Alabama. He detailed how the town has influenced the development of surrounding communities, emphasizing its once-prominent role in regional trade, transportation, and culture. Chandler highlighted the importance of preserving historical landmarks and educating the public about the town's legacy. The "Walk in History" will be held at the Columbia Cemetery, located next to Houston County High School, on Saturday, May 3, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The event is designed to be an immersive, educational experience, offering guided tours through the cemetery with reenactments and historical narratives about notable individuals buried there. Organizers hope the event will attract history enthusiasts, families, and local residents interested in learning more about the people and stories that helped shape Columbia. With contributions from local historians and community volunteers, the tour aims to bring Columbia’s past vividly to life.
