Romans 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who "will render to each one according to his deeds": 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;
1. V4 & 5 Judgement according to opportunity
Forbearance is God holding back the judgement we deserve rather than destroying us the moment we sin
Longsuffering is sending kindness and withholding judgement or being slow to send it
God gives us a chance to be saved by repenting.
Repentance is a change of mind, as it appears to one who repents, of a purpose he has formed or of something he has done
V5 Hardheartedness or being unrepentant - comes from the word sclerosis as in arteriosclerosis which is a hardening of the arteries
Here the danger is not physical but spiritual hardness
A hardened heart can disable you permanently for eternity
Psalms 95:8 Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
Treasuring (or storing) up wrath... to reject God's offer of forgiveness and clinging to your sin will earn you more severe judgement
2. v6 - 10 Judgement according to deeds or works
V6 This verse shows the right or just judgement of God
