Perseverance - 21st Sunday after Trinity

Since we fight not against flesh and blood but against powers, against "spiritual wickedness in high places" it seems like having perseverance would be a good idea.

So what is required in order to persevere in this world?

If we are sent as sheep among wolves how does being wise as serpents but harmless as dove help us?

If we love Father or Mother, Son or Daughter more than the Saviour how does that make us unworthy of the Saviour? 

Seems like such an extreme claim to make, doesn't it?

And what is the whole armour of God?

How can such armour be of value to us?
