Rehearsal notes 2018 (J accompanying)
This song is based on a true story.
This recording is one of a rehearsal with JK for a show in 2018. There is something so lovely about the harmonies and two guitars, as loose as it is, probably never to be repeated the same way again. A story of hope, childhood and plastic.
I live on a boat
mum and dad live on the same boat
Everywhere we go
Our home goes
There's not a lot of space on
A boat that's built for three
But where the Sky meets the Sea
There's more than we need
Tucked up tight
Feet below the bow
Rocked asleep
By the waves
There There There There
I live on a boat
mum and dad live on the same boat
Everywhere we go
Our home goes
One night a big storm came through
We batten down the hatches
Through the tiny window I watch
Ocean splash and lightening flashes
Tucked up tight
Feet below the bow
Told to go to sleep
Ignore the waves You're safe safe there there
I'm shaken awake told to
put your lifejacket on
It's time to swim to shore
you don't have to worry
But hurry up darling
We have to go now coz
Our boat
It's sinking
Sinking
holding hands
We jump into the water
I oughta be more scared but
I know mum and dad are there
there there there
Easy does it slow and steady
We will get there when we're ready
When you're tired just lean back
We'll hold your head
Look how close we are now darling
The sun in coming up up you've been so
Brave you are so good at swimming
We are almost there
there there
feel the sand
rub between our fingers
Roll together on dry land
safe safe
Used to live on a boat
mum and dad used to live on the same boat
Everywhere we went
our home would follow
We walk along the salty shore
Our boat lies on the ocean floor
Everything I've ever known is
gone.
Tucked up tight
Feet below the bow
how will I ever sleep without the waves?
there there
Look over there what's that says dad
all up the beach washed up on the sand
Bends down to the water and holds up his hand
Red Yellow and Blue
Do these belong to you????
All we need is the three of us
and a bag of shipwrecked
lego my lego my lego.
Used to live on a boat
mum and dad used to live on the same boat
but everywhere you go
your home goes.
PS at the the end of the story, the adult storyteller got up and ran to his cupboard: and brought back a bag of lego: the only thing left from his childhood. I guess in 45,000 years it'll still be here ;)
