For some reason, politicians are very threatened by the prospect of individuals like you and me having complete control over our own money. Thomas L. Knapp says the looming choice before us is whether government can control our money or it can't.

The surest proof that government has grown beyond its usefulness in protecting our rights is the persecution of an Amish farmer who refuses to comply with USDA regulations. Patrick Carroll says there's something we can learn from this farmer's example.

It's hard to know who and what to believe about the unprecedented wildfire destruction and death on Maui. One of the more disturbing stories beginning to emerge is that some authorities closed roads and trapped residents trying to escape. There's an important lesson here.
