Paul starts the show by discussing the depth of this running back class and how the backs can be characterized into three different types. The types are three down or potential three down running backs, two down between the tackles power runners and also change of pace, receiving backs or specialists. He discusses how in each of the categories teams can be targeting backs in the early rounds, mid rounds, or late rounds that fit into each of the different types.
He first discusses the three down or potential three down backs. The players discussed include Saquon Barkley, Sony Michel, Derrius Guice, Ronald Jones, Kerryon Johnson, Rashaad Penny and John Kelly. He discusses how some of those prospects did not play often in the passing game but he could see them developing into more of a three down role at the next level. Next, he discusses the physical, tough, power runners, that may be best suited in a committee, where they are complemented by a receiving back. Some of the prospects discussed here include Nick Chubb, Royce Freeman, Bo Scarbrough, Josh Adams, Darrel Williams, and Jordan Wilkins. He discusses how Chubb and Freeman in particular may be able to play on all three downs in some capacity based on what else is on the depth chart. Last, Paul discusses the change of pace, receiving running backs, which is the deepest of the three types. Some of the names discussed include Kallen Ballage, Nyheim Hines, Mark Walton, Akrum Wadley, Chase Edmonds, Justin Jackson, Phillip Lindsay, Ito Smith and Roc Thomas
