US Mid-Session 22 Feb 17: US Markets higher led by retailers, Aussie market results and BHP

US sharemarkets rose to fresh record highs supported by gains in retailers. Wal-Mart rose by 3.2% after the company reported higher-than-expected sales. BHP (BHP) better than expected half year result boosted by metal prices and tight cost control

US sharemarkets rose to fresh record highs supported by gains in retailers. Shares in Wal-Mart rose by 3.2% after the company reported higher-than-expected sales. Shares in Macy's rose 0.6% and Home Depot rose 1.0% after both companies reported profit results that beat forecasts. With an hour of trade to go the Dow Jones index was up by 110 points or 0.5% after being up 133 points in early trade. The S&P 500 index was up by 0.5% while the Nasdaq was up by almost 20 points or 0.4%.
