Irish beef farmers are being sacrificed in the European Commission’s bid to secure a trade deal with the Mercosur countries. That’s the claim from the Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy. He was referring to recent reports that the quantity of meat that Mercosur would have the right to export into the EU has been increased to 99,000 tonnes per year. The Midlands North-West MEP said such an increase of beef into the EU market would destroy farms in Ireland.
