Jesus. Solid rock. Fragile flower.

God is love. Pastor Phil Kniss said that this statement implies that God is not only all powerful, but is also vulnerable. In John 4:5-42, Jesus was needy. Having walked all day, Jesus was tired out by his journey. He was so tired that he sat in the shade by the wall while the disciples went into town for food. Jesus made himself very vulnerable when he asked the Samaritan woman for a drink of water. He became vulnerable to criticism from the Jewish religious establishment. He became vulnerable as he acknowledged his indebtedness to the woman. God is a Rock. There is nothing stronger than God's love. But God is fragile, because love is fragile. Pastor Phil said that viewing God as fragile allows us to embrace our own fragility, and invites us to open ourselves to others. We accept the risks that come with making ourselves vulnerable. To live like Jesus is risky!
