Avatar: The Last Airbender (2010) | Movie Review | M Night Shyamalan’s Ninth Film

2 years after Shyamalan's atomic bomb at the box office and with critics/audiences--he decided to go big or go home. Taking on one of the greatest, and at the time, most popular TV properties of all time--the once acclaimed director set his sights on bringing a live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender to the big screen. Banking on a runaway success trilogy--Shayamalan had the backing of some of the biggest producers in Hollywood such as Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. Opening on the United State's biggest holiday weekend--July 4th--there was a lot riding on Shyamalan's career. With a tepid opening weekend morsel of $40 million and a devastating 5% approval from Rotten Tomatoes (compared with the TV show's 100%)--no sixth sense could've seen this coming.
