Saturday of the 12th Week in Ordinary Time
Jesus puts the teaching authority He displayed in the Sermon on the Mount into practice, healing the centurion’s servant because of the centurion’s faith: “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof, only say the word and my servant will be healed.”
Fr. O’Mullane preaches on Faith, and the way it is highlighted in today’s Gospel. True Faith is not some vague notion in a greater being, a vague faith that is not lived. “Jesus doesn’t care about that faith.” We are called to have faith like the centurion, of whom Christ said, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.” We must have the sort of Faith that consists in a radical trust in Christ’s authority and power. We must join the centurion and say, as we do at Mass: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.”
