Discovering what appears to be an ancient coin, Jack finds himself abruptly hurled back and then forward through time, by a technology and an intelligence beyond his control, firstly to the Roman occupation of Britain, then forward to the heart of a vastly powerful totalitarian state. He will need all his ability and courage to survive.
